In it’s seventh season veteran comedy How I Met Your Mother had its up and downs but ended the season on a high note. We finally got to find out who Barney marries. Lily and Marshall finally had their baby and we got to see Ted take a real step towards a relationship. Overall I liked the season. Even though I didn’t get to write about it myself hopefully you all got to see the recaps through our partnership with Jeni at the Show and Tell TV Blog. I’m going to take those three main storylines and give you my thoughts about them. Apologies now for spoilers but the season has been over for a few weeks.
Barney Marries Who?
We were teased about Barney’s impending nuptials at the end of season six and thought were were getting the answer all season long. Barney had developed real feelings for Quinn, a stripper from his favorite establishment. Things didn’t start out so well for the two of them. They grew together and I thought she was quite his equal. (She was played very well by Becki Newton.) He had his growing pains as well. It’s hard to go from a bachelor life to developing and acting on real feelings for someone else. They move in together and he proposed in a very epic way in the penultimate episode. Barney pulled off an amazing magic trick.
Unfortunately at the end of the season we find out that he doesn’t marry Quinn. What?!?! Another producer curveball. We find out that he’s about to marry none other than Robin herself. I’m actually a bit disappointed. I thought Barney was really going to find happiness in Quinn. I guess we’ll have to see what happens in season eight.
Eriksen Baby
It seemed that Lily was pregnant for a really long time doesn’t it? Well she finally had her baby after a season full of trials. Her dad came back into her life, they moved out to the suburbs and back from them. It was hard for them. Marshall was a nervous father to be and wasn’t helping the situation. He almost missed the birth when he was really drunk with Barney in Atlantic City. Thanks to some more “magic’ by Barney he made it just in time for the birth of his son. In return for the miraculous save Barney got to name the baby’s middle name. And yes, he named it “Waitforit.” Isn’t that just legendary. Weird name but I guess it’s definitely HIMYM style.
I don’t know how they’re going to incorporate the baby into the show over the next season. I hope they come up with a good way and it’s not too baby joke centric. I do have faith, but sometimes a veteran show can slump.
Ted Does What?
Yeah, Ted did that. In his quest to find love he ends up trying to get back with old flame. Not really where I thought they should go with the show. It seems like they’re just wasting time until they get to revealing the mother (which will inevitably be disappointing). I didn’t like this Victoria storyline at all. Nor did I like him confessing his love for Robin either. It all just seemed so off. So it should’t surprise you that I didn’t like his ride out into the sunset with her when she skipped her own wedding. I kind of had an ugh moment. They really need to give him better storylines.
